A TRIO of Hereford and County Athletics youngsters came away with a medals from the South Wales Fell Series.
The set of six challenging fell races took place between April and November and included two races on the Sugar Loaf in the Black Mountains, Pen y Fan, Llanthony, Fan Fawr and Rasys Cedris in North Wales.
Fred Tyler of Whitecross High School placed first in the under-15 boys category. Meanwhile, Milo Williams placed second in the under-13 boys’ category.
Finally, Saffi Reid, of Whitecross High School, placed first in the under-13 girls’ category and now holds the Shropshire and South Wales girls titles in that age category.
Meanwhile, the Herefordshire & Borders Winter Cross Country League got underway earlier this month with the opening round hosted by Wye Valley Runners at Bearwood.
The course consisted of a mixed route of trail, farmland and woodland with runners battling it out over 10 kilometres.
Sam Juson (Croft Ambrey RC) was the quickest of the senior athletes with his winning time of 36 minutes and 19 seconds two minutes clear of his nearest opponent.
However, with four runners in the top 10 positions Hereford Couriers leader the overall men’s competition.
The club’s counting runners were Matt James, Luke Mason, Ryan Lawrence and William Morris.
Meanwhile, Hannah Thomas (Maldwyn Harriers) led the women’s field.
Hereford Couriers were also the quickest women’s team with Ellie Smithers, Clare Mallender, Abi Knight and Esmie Smith all contributing.
The series resumes with the second round taking place near Thorn Business Park, Hereford, on December 8. The third round is at Croft Castle on January 12 before the concluding round at Fforest Fields on February 2.
