THE man who guided Presteigne St Andrews to an historic league title has been sacked by the club.

Adriano Girolami was in charge of the Welsh side which lifted the Spar Mid Wales League title last season for the first time.

The club’s committee took the decision last week to relieve Girolami of his duties after a long discussion.

The committee felt the time was right for a change of direction and the post is to be advertised.

The decision has been announced to allow Girolami the best chance to find a new post for next season.

Presteigne chairman Tony Wood said: “We would like to thank Adriano for his efforts over the last two seasons - the highlight of which was winning the Spar Mid Wales League title last season for the first time in our history. The fact that Adriano won both the manager and player-of-the-season awards speaks volumes about his contribution to that success. Clearly this season has been more difficult, not least because we lost Adriano’s services as a player when he broke his leg at Knighton early in the campaign. This decision was not taken lightly, but comes as part of a major review of the structure of the club.” He added: “We would like to wish Adriano well for the future, and have no doubt at all that he will return to management soon rather than later.” All those interested in the Presteigne manager’s role should contact chairman Tony Wood before Friday, May 16.

Wood can be contacted on 01544 267254 or 07900 216507.
