COLIN Addison’s Hereford United XI overcame a West Bromwich Albion Allstars team 3-1 in a game in aid of the Mayor of Hereford, Councillor Chris Chappell’s chosen charity, the county branch of the Alzheimer’s Society.

A crowd of 387 turned out at Westfields FC’s allpay.park ground on Sunday to see some of their former Bulls’ favourites Neil Grayson, Mel Pejic, Ian Rodgerson, Gareth Davies, Ian Bray, Steve Emery, Kevin Rose, Stewart Phillips, Gary Stevens and Jamie Pitman show they still retained much of their skills.

Alex Sykes, now with Gloucester City, put Hereford in front but the Bulls current coach John Trewick, the former West Bromwich Albion and Newcastle United midfielder, equalised from a penalty to make it 1-1 at half-time. In the second half Grayson, who is in his early forties and still playing for Stafford Rangers, restored Hereford’s lead from a penalty before netting his second with a fierce shot.

Gate receipts and a raffle raised a total of £1,327 and the Mayor said: “I would like to thank Westfields chief executive Andy Morris and Colin Addison for staging the game and all those who came along to watch. “I’m raising money for the Befriending Scheme that gives support in the home to carers of those suffering dementia.” Addison said: “It was a very enjoyable afternoon with the players putting on an entertaining match.” He added: “I’m delighted to have been able to help the Mayor raise money for such a worthwhile cause.”
