TWO juniors have won the Herefordshire GC’s Times Trophy in which competitors play at different times to their partner.

Alex Allen and Oliver Northcliffe won the Canadian cup event with an eight-under-par total of 272.

Allen has reduced his handicap by three shots as a result of his excellent performance.

Allen and Northcliffe beat the runners-up, captain Neil Bell and Ron East, by 13 shots.

Tony and Stuart Gwynne took third spot - two shots further back on 287 - on a countback from fourth-placed Oliver Harry and Jake Apperley.

John Williams was the winner of Kington’s Committee Cup after firing 86-17-69.

Glyn Wictome finished in second place with 80-10-70.

Ray Evans was the overall winner of the May Medal competition after carding 75-9-66.

Wyndham Evans (74-7-67) topped Division 1, while George Smith (78-8-70) took second spot.

Phil Jones carried off the Division 2 title after a return of 79-12-67.

Second-place went to Murray Mackintosh who finished with 79-10-69.

Bill Holmes won Division 3 with 87-20-67, while Gareth Jones (84-16-68) achieved the runners-up place.

Keith Douglas came out on top in Division 1 in the second round of the Kington Seniors’ Summer League competition.

Terry Inskip finished second on a countback after the top two players both fired 40 points.

Stan Thornton secured third spot with 36 points.

Phil Gould took first place in Division 2 with 34 points, while George Farr was second with 33 points and Dave Mains (30 points) third.

The seniors’ team secured a five games to one win at home to The Rolls of Monmouth in an inter-club match.

The Kington Handicap League team suffered a 5-1 defeat at the Herefordshire in their latest fixture.

Ken Watson triumphed in the 0-12 handicap section of Leominster’s Seniors’ medal.

Richard Cattermole secured the runners-up place, with Martin Davies taking third.

William Harries won the 13-18 handicap section, while Charlie Tune was second and Dilwyn James came third.

Mick Herbert took the honours in the 19-28 section, while John Southwell finished second and Jeremy Finney was third.

Jim Kelly carded 37 points to win Luctonians Golf Society’s trip to Llandrindod Wells.

Brian Watkins was second with 35 points, while Nigel Moore was third after firing 34 points.

Robin East, with 18 points, took the top prize on the front nine, while Rod Mee fired 17 points to win the honour on the back nine.

Bryan Watkins took the prize for finishing nearest the pin.

John Preece won the Kingstone High School Golf Society’s Three Club Challenge at Brampton Golf Club.

Preece’s nett 28 was sufficient to hold off a group of players who coped well with the limited requirements.

P Woodhall shot an excellent 40 points to win the April Stableford at Burghill Valley.

The men’s handicap team started the season with a disappointing 4-2 defeat at Bridgnorth, however, they redeemed themselves with a superb 6-0 win against Cadmore Lodge.

The Herefordshire’s Ken Barr teamed up with Alan Semple, from Lilleshall Hall, to win the nett prize in the Society of Shropshire and Herefordshire Golf Club captains’ four-ball betterball Spring meeting at Lilleshall Hall. The Herefordshire’s Peter Timms joined forces with Mile End’s Fred Crouch for fourth place.

A raffle arranged by the captains of Lilleshall Golf Club raised £430 to help promote junior golf in Shropshire and Herefordshire.

Result: 1 Ken Barr (Herefordshire) and Alan Semple (Lilleshall Hall) 65 nett.

Colin Bennion was the popular winner of Ross-on-Wye’s Combined Spring Scratch/Handicap.

The 54-year-old has also qualified as the club’s member to play in the PGA National Final with professional Paul Middleton at Little Aston next month.

Bennion’s gross 84 medal round, nett 69 gave him victory in the 132-strong field.

Steve Wallbank and Nick Ellis achieved the lowest gross after both players hit gross 76 scores.

Josh Adams secured the runners-up spot with a nett 70, while Dave Pragnell was third with a nett 72.

Terry Jarrett’s B side secured a 3.5 points to 2.5 points home win over their Forest of Dean counterparts in a friendly.
