HEREFORD Wheelers moved to the Lugg Bridge course for the start of their third 10-mile time trial of the season.
The weather was much the same as for the previous week’s race at Leominster but this was a tougher course and the overall times reflected the difficult climbs on both the outward and return journeys.
With a field of 46 riders, the home club managed to take the top seven places.
Popularity of this particular sport is on the increase for both sexes and eight ladies took to their racing bikes. The social experience has encouraged all abilities to challenge themselves to get fit and try to improve their cycling against the clock.
First lady home was Alison Hall in a time of 28 minutes and 40 seconds. Hall was followed closely home by Gaby McDermott just 17 seconds behind.
The oldest rider of the day was Wheeler member Eddie Luxton who produced a creditable time of 33 minutes and 43 seconds.
Recent top performer Ian Rivers equalled the course record from the 1991 season which was set at 22 min 43 sec by Peter Hughes. The weather was not at its best, so later this season could see this long-standing record fall.
The top 5 riders were, 1 Ian Rivers 22.43; 2 Jon Tetley 23.23; 3 Alex Haines 23.46; 4 Chris Hughes 24.17; 5 Simon Geary 24.23.
This week’s fourth round event will be held on the Yazor course tonight at 7pm.
