HEREFORDSHIRE’S young footballers made Edgar Street their own with three days of thrilling junior finals.
While Hereford United’s players were enjoying their civic parade, the Stirling Suzuki Herefordshire Junior League teams took centre stage.
Boys from under-9 through to under-16 demonstrated their potential with two days of hard-fought football.
Pegasus Juniors claimed three cup final wins and also carried off the Dave Higgins Memorial Cup after being voted Club of the Year.
Westfields also had a memorable weekend, claiming two trophies after penalty shoot-out triumphs.
The county’s football fans also had a glimpse at the future of Herefordshire’s female footballers on the county’s biggest stage.
Hereford Girls, Hereford Lads Club Vixens, Ledbury Swifts and Weobley took the honours in the Herefordshire Girls’ League finals on the Tuesday.
It was the second time that the girls’ league had staged their finals at Edgar Street.
Girls’ league vice-chairman Mike Griffin said: “For the girls, playing under the lights at Edgar Street was a fantastic experience. The girls were aged from under-10 to under-16 and many said they would remember the experience for the rest of their lives. We want to thank the generosity of Hereford United - because the girls had a great time.” But, win or lose, mums and dads, grannies and grandads, brothers and sisters, as well as friends and neighbours, raised the roof as the young heroes showed their skills.
