COLWALL and Eastnor are both through to the area semi-final of the National Village Knockout Cup after claiming wins over Cookley and Chaddesley Corbett in their quarter final ties on Sunday.
Colwall will travel to Bretforton, and Eastnor will entertain Belbroug-hton or Alfrick in the next round.
Colwall were in trouble when they required 30 to win at Cookley with just two wickets and seven overs to go. Fortunately the experienced pairing of Tim Riley and Nick Hitchings kept cool heads to edge Colwall to 151-8 with nine balls to spare.
Chasing Cookley’s first innings total of 150-6, Colwall struggled from the first over when they lost Tom Wolfendale. Riley (89 not out) scored the majority of the runs, but was struggling to find a reliable partner until Hitchings took on the role.
When Cookley batted, Hitchings bowled a tight spell, conceding just 12 runs from his nine overs. The rest of the bowlers struggled and it was only the regular fall of wickets which kept a semblance of control over the batsmen.
Eastnor were not at their best either, but still beat old adversaries Chaddesley Corbett by 73 runs at home. A generous helping of 43 extras helped them reach 187 before being bowled out in 39 overs. The visitors threatened at 69-3 after 15 overs but petered out against the slow bowling of Jim Sandford (2-21) and Jabran, followed up by the quick, straight bowling of Shahid (3-7) and Josh Emery (2-4). They were bowled out in the 32nd over for 114.
Faisal made the most of being dropped early on to make 52 for Eastnor.
