BRIAN Dix took the overall top place in Burghill Valley Seniors’ Open which attracted a 160-strong field.
Dix, who plays at Burghill Valley, secured the top position with a return of 43 stableford points.
Mike Buffey, another Burghill golfer, was second with 40 points, while Leominster’s John Hinchcliffe was third with 39 points.
J Jones, from Builth Wells, was first in the 0-16 handicap section with 37 points.
Brian Vaughan, from Burghill, scored 35 points and was second on a countback from Cleobury Mortimer’s A Hall.
Burghill players took the top three places in the 17-28 handicap section.
Mike Hooper carded 36 points to win on a countback from second-placed Don Barrington.
Stuart Randall secured third spot with 35 points.
Cecil Wheatstone, from Ross-on-Wye, took the top honour in the Over 70s category.
He won on a countback from Burghill’s Ron Goodall after both players carded 36 points.
Harry Thornley, from Burghill, was third with 35 points.
Brian Blower won Division 1 of Burghill Valley Seniors’ Individual Stableford with 38 points.
John Griffiths was second with 37 points, while Dereck Blundell was third with 34 points.
Bill Bonham pipped David Bateman by one point to take the Division 2 title. Bonham took the top spot with 36 points, while Bateman (35 points) was second and third place went to Les Amos (29 points).
Burghill Seniors secured an 8-0 home win over Kington in a friendly but suffered a 4½-1½ away defeat to Leominster.
In a successful seniors’ tour to South Wales, Wilf Jones won the first Stableford competition with an excellent 40 points.
Pete Haddock (37 points) won the second competition, but Jones was the overall winner for the tour with a total of 71 points.
Jim Davidson and James Surrey took the top honours with a 40-point return in the club’s June Stableford.

Rob Leach won a stableford competition with a return of 40 points.
Steve Wall finished second with 39 points, while Nick Hemmings was third with 36 points.
Roger Woolley, Kevin Powell, Brian Stringer and Mike Williams won a Texas Scramble with a return of 59.8.
Brian Goode clinched the Virgo Cup with a 41-point haul.
Roger Smith was second with 40 points, while Peter Rouse (39 points) finished third.
Students from Kingstone High School’s Golf Society beat Fairfield School and also triumphed in a match against the staff.
Both matches were played in the Ryder Cup format and the Kingstone secured a 4-2 win over Fairfield High School.
Results (Kingstone High School pupils first): Andy Wright lost to Harvey Hancock 3&2, Alex Price beat Adam Wilkes 1-up, Richard Manning lost to Mike Bethell 3&1, Andy Thomson beat Chris Greenow 5&4 and Tom Jordan beat George Spencer 4&3. James Johnson also recorded a 3&2 win.
The students retained the Staff v Pupils’ title with a narrow 5-4 win.
The students achieved the win in the final match and their strength in depth was crucial.
Results: Mr Mackintosh beat Ben Kennedy 1-up, Mr Price beat John Preece 2&1, Mr Cook beat Dan Hearn 4&2, Mr Bissell halved with Sam Cockman, Mr McPherson lost to Bill Cockman 3&2, Mr Wright lost to Alex Price 3&2, Mr Butler lost to Richard Manning 3&2, Mr Goodchild halved with James Jordan, Mr Sinkowski lost to Gareth Williams 4&3.
Luke Jones triumphed in a stableford competition involving those not involved in the teachers versus pupils’ match.
Jones convincingly won the event with a return of 27 points.
Andy Wright, Anthony Nottingham, Ashley Pace and Aaron Nottingham were the divisional winners.
Results: Overall winner: Luke Jones 27 points, Division 1: Andy Wright 20 points, Division 2: Anthony Nottingham 18 points, Division 3: Ashley Pace 21 points; Novice section: Aaron Nottingham 10 points.
Gareth Williams pipped Ben Kennedy to win the society’s knockout championship at Brampton GC.
Williams won four rounds - two of those on the last hole and another on an extra hole - to clinch the title after finishing 1-up.
The losing semi-finalists were Bill Cockman and James Johnson.
Two other competitions took place for players eliminated from the knockout event.
Alex Price won the Mulligan Competition and followed it up by joining Andy Wright and Moray Mackintosh to win the afternoon Texas Scramble.
The evening event saw Neil McPherson pip Ollie Adams on a countback to win the monthly Mulligan Medal title.

Tim Townsend fired 37 points to win the 0-17 handicap section in a four-club Stableford for Herefordshire GC Seniors.
Clive James and Malcolm Allen were second and third, respectively, after a 34-point return.
Clive Fieth’s 34 points took the honours in the 19-28 handicap section after a countback from Roger Wardle and Joe Millington.
Herefordshire Seniors suffered a 6-2 defeat in a friendly at Ross Seniors.
Mike Harley, Ray Harley, Emyrs Davies and David Preece fired 87 points to win the Stableford team competition at Hereford Rugby Club’s Am-Am Golf Day.
Andy Johnson, Matthew Hayes, Alister Walshe and Paul Jones took second spot with 85 points.
Jeremy Beavan, Tim Pattinson, Trevor Pretty and Dave Westwood finished third after an 80-point return.
Andy Bonnelle, Ray Harley and Andy Williams won prizes for finishing nearest the pin, while David Pearson won the longest drive.
The competition, at the Herefordshire GC, was a huge success despite the terrible weather conditions.
Shropshire & Herefordshire County Seniors recorded an excellent 12½ - 5½ win over Glamorgan at The Herefordshire.
The county side were strengthened by the return of Mike Rooke to lead the charge and record a clean sheet.
Gerald Smith’s tactics to spread the five home club players through the team proved to be a shrewd move. Stuart Lee and Roy Joshua, Alan Molyneux and Ron Bowering and Cliff Mawby and Rod Wassell were all unbeaten.
Stephen Howell and his partner, Ken Mallender, were the only pair not to record a win.
Colin Mansell, John Thomas, Bob Meredith and Dave Price won the Bradnor Scramble at Kington GC.
They edged out Glyn Wictome, Howard Perry, Dennis Hughes and John Priday on the back nine after both teams finished with 61-4.7-56.3.
Matt Weaver (69-5-64) was the overall winner of the club’s latest Sunday Medal event.
Matt Burgoyne (75-9-66) won Division 1, while Phil Jones (79-12-67) triumphed in Division 2 and Gareth Jones (80-16-64) won Division 3.
Mike Richards clinched the Division 1 title of the club’s seniors’ June Medal with 81-14-67.
John Weaver was second with 86-16-70, while John H Williams was third with 88-17-71.
Neil Warrington triumphed in Division 2 with 102-27-75, while Viv Weaver (98-22-76) was second and Craig Mayo (97-20-77) took third spot.
Jim Kelly was the overall winner of the Lewis Cup after firing 79-15-64.
Graham Priday topped Division 1 with 73-5-68, while the runner-up was Ross Moore, 74-5-69.
Colin Mansell (76-11-65) won Division 2 from the runner-up, Dave Price (81-15-66).
Mike Waygood (82-17-65) was the winner of Division 3, while Frank Burke finished second with 83-16-67.
Ron Taylor (90-23-67) won the Waugh Cup for competitors with a handicap of 20-28.
Gary Moore shot 73-11-62 to be the overall winner of the Greg Norman Medal.
David Morgan was the runner-up with 87-23-64, while Mark Freake finished third with 85-19-66.
Nigel Scott triumphed in Division 1 with 77-6-71 from second-placed Rob Pritchard (78-6-72).
Alan Crichton won Division 2 with 80-11-69, while John Watkins (85-15-70) finished second.
Kevin Barnes (88-16-72) topped Division 3 from second-placed Barry Wilson (93-16-77).
Colin Mansell fired 77-11-66 to clinch the overall top spot in the Kildare Cup.
Doug Taylor (79-7-72) won Division 1, while Brian Morgan (83-7-76) took the runners-up spot.
Phil Jones won Division 2 with 81-12-69, while Adam Vaughan was second with 85-15-70.
Alex Metcalfe (94-28-66) secured first place in Division 3 from the runner-up, Phil Gould (93-21-72).
Pip Ryde and Keith Douglas notched up a winning score of 50 points in the seniors’ Pairs Betterball competition.
Joe James and Bill Didcock finished second with 47 points, while Bill Button and Phil Gould were third with 46 points.
Kington seniors suffered a 7-0 defeat at Burghill Valley.
Ian McLaren posted a winning stableford score of 42 points to lift the Charity Tyne Trophy on a blustery day at Hereford Municipal GC.
Colin Morgan shot a steady 41 to finish runner-up and pushed McLaren all the way.
Club captain Shaun Vivian took the male awards for hitting the longest drive and finishing nearest the pin. Tony Chambers and Steve Watkins each secured a two on the 17th hole.
The event raised £200 for the Special Care Baby Unit at Hereford County Hospital.
