Westfields 4 Blackwell MW 0.

A MARK Davis hat-trick led Westfields to a comfortable home win over their Derbyshire opponents in the second qualifying round of the FA Vase.

The victory was pleasing for Westfields’ new manager, John Layton, who recalled goalkeeper Jon Pugh, fresh from his spell at the Paralympics in Beijing.

Westfields got off to a dream start when Davis prodded in the opening goal after four minutes from Jamie Edwards’ cross to the far post.

Blackwell goalkeeper Richard Parker then saved well from Paul Allam before Edwards and Mark Hibbard went close to increasing the home side’s advantage.

Westfields continued to press and doubled their lead in the 25th minute after Parker could only parry a vicious Allam free-kick and Davis netted from close-range.

The Hereford club almost grabbed a third goal before the interval when Edwards sent a diving header narrowly over the Blackwell bar.

Westfields scored a vital third goal three minutes after the break when a long clearance from Pugh bounced over the visiting defence and fell to striker Danny Hill who fired home.

The home side started to play some attractive football and Parker saved brilliantly from Edwards to keep the score down.

However, Parker was left helpless in the 55th minute when Davis completed his treble with a powerful drive from 25 yards.

Blackwell tried hard to get back in the game but Tony Green marshalled the Westfields defence superbly.

Westfields almost added a fifth goal through Hibbard and then Allam but they had to settle for the four-goal triumph.

Westifelds will now meet Lye Town in the first round proper of the FA Vase on October 4 at allpay.park.
