HELEN Palmer has retained the 36-hole ladies’ championship at Ross-on-Wye GC.
Erika Atkins was not overawed by the formidable challenge of Palmer, the defending champion and runner-up in 2006.
Palmer needed to display her outstanding short game strengths and match-play experience to emerge as a comfortable winner.
In addition to retaining her club championship, Palmer collected trophies for the Little Weston Shield and Cinderford Cup.
q Jenny Wildman was the ladies’ captain’s day winner at Hereford Municipal GC.
Lesley Turbutt also played well and finished in second spot.
Averil Magee won an award for being nearest the pin on the fourth hole, while Turbutt won the prize on the 17th and she also registered the longest drive.
q D Butler and P Righton from the Broadway club were the first away pairs in a Mixed Open at Belmont GC.
J Hawes and Jo Hawes, from The Herefordshire, were second, while A Bow (Wyre Forest and V Bow (The Worcestershire) were third.

q Jane Collins was the overall winner of the Ruby Bowl and Grannies Cup event at Burghill Valley GC.
Collins also clinched the Division 3 title with an excellent return of 35 points.
Tilley Hare finished top of Division 1 with 30 points and was closely followed by Mary Crocket, 29 points.
Tina Lifely won Division 2 after firing 32 points, while Angela Thomas was second in Division 3 after carding 34 points.

q Kington Ladies and Kington Seniors joined forces to play their annual contest in an Am-Am style competition.
Viv Weaver and ladies’ captain Greta Davies organised the event - and produced a winning score of 90 points along with Claire Burton and John Weaver.
However, a countback was needed to determine first place because Marion Weaver, Ann Hitchcox, Mike Richards and Stan Yarnold also scored 90 points.
Weaver, Hitchcox, Richards and Yarnold were second after missing out on the back-nine.
Kate Block, Sue Davies, Phil Gould and Joe James were third with 89 points.
James hit a hole-in-one on the fifth hole which was his fifth ace in a golfing career going back to the early 1970s.
Claire Burton came out on top in the ladies’ All Winners Salver after a return of 87-17-70.
Kate Block was second with 90-20-70 and third place was secured by Wendy Priday (96-24-72).
Chris Hughes returned the best gross of the day with 85.
