Pegasus Juniors 3 Marlow United 2.
A STOPPAGE-TIME header from Mark Davies gave Pegasus a last-gasp win in an exciting FTL Futbol Hellenic League Premier Division clash.
Davies headed in a deep right-wing cross from Ben Price, in the 91st minute, to seal Pegasus’ second league victory of the season.
The Hereford club appeared to be heading for a comfortable afternoon when goals from Simon Gwynne and Price put them 2-0 ahead after 26 minutes of last Saturday’s match.
But newly-promoted Marlow hit back strongly in the second half and scored twice within 14 minutes of the re-start.
Pegasus goalkeeper Stuart Turpin then pulled off a fine save and they had a lucky escape when Marlow struck the bar.
The home side also had a reprieve in the third minute of stoppage-time when Marlow substitute Daniel Pedley shot narrowly wide.
Marlow were the first to threaten in front of goal and Turpin raced off his line in the opening seconds to smother the ball at the feet of Lewis Brown.
Pegasus also started brightly and a neat exchange between Chris Mortlock and Gwynne ended with Mortlock firing straight at stand-in goalkeeper Gary Wiltshire.
Mortlock also caused problems in the eighth minute when he got behind the Marlow defence and rounded the goalkeeper but failed to pick out a team-mate with his cross.
Pegasus continued to create chances and a cross from Price was headed over the bar by Rob Laurie before the home side went in front in the 21st minute.
Price threaded a neat pass to Mortlock on the right-hand side which opened up the Marlow defence.
Mortlock then squared the ball into the six-yard box where Gwynne was on hand to plant his shot past the helpless Wiltshire, who is normally a striker.
The goal lifted Pegasus and Gwynne almost added a second goal before the home side doubled their advantage in the 26th minute.
Price was the scorer, ghosting into the six-yard box to head home a deep cross from the left.
Marlow seldom threatened towards the end of the first half but last season’s Division 1 East runners-up were a different force in the second period.
The lively Jason Bowler gave Marlow renewed hope three minutes after the interval with a superb right-footed curler which sailed over Turpin into the top corner.
And it was no real surprise when the visitors hit the equaliser in the 59th minute after Brown evaded left-back Bobby Aldrich and fired in an angled drive.
Turpin made a crucial save five minutes later to push Brown’s shot around a post before Pegasus regrouped and Gwynne narrowly missed with a header.
Marlow came agonisingly close to taking the lead in the 76th minute when the dangerous Brown outpaced Aldrich.
The striker lobbed with the ball over the advancing Turpin but his shot struck the crossbar and was scrambled away by the Pegasus defence.
Marlow also went close to scoring less than a minute later after Daniel Sobocinski picked up a yellow card for bringing down Bowler on the left-hand edge of the box.
Bowler, himself, curled the free-kick over the wall and it was heading for the bottom corner until the diving Turpin managed to push the ball away.
With a draw looking the most likely result, Pegasus snatched victory through Davies’ header 74 seconds into stoppage-time.
But Marlow didn’t accept defeat and substitute Pedley had a great chance to equalise in the 93rd minute when he shot wide with only Turpin to beat.
