Westfields 1 Barwell 1.
WESTFIELDS continued their improved Aspire Midland Alliance form with a draw against second-placed promotion hopefuls Barwell at allpay.park.
Boasting only one defeat in their last 11 games in the league, and buoyed by their 1-0 win at Barwell in March, Fields were good value for the hard-earned point.
After the Barwell goalkeeper had tipped a Shaun Prince shot around a post, the home team drew first blood in the 24th minute.
The resulting corner taken by Mark Hibbard found its way to Paul Jones who scored with a neat back header.
There was almost an immediate reply from Barwell in their next attack when Jon Pugh was forced into a fine save from a close-range drive.
The goalkeeper was also called upon to fist away two dangerous crosses to keep his side 1-0 in front at half time.
In the second period, Jamie Cuss and Tom Sparey caught the eye with hard-working displays and Paul Allam went close to increasing the lead when he forced the Barwell keeper into a full stretch save from his dipping shot.
But, in the 70th minute, Cunnington lashed in a 12-yard shot from a right wing cross to bring Barwell level and Westfields held on with a resolute defensive display.
