HEREFORD and District Wheelers held their second event of the 2009 season with the Hilly Golden Valley ‘35’ mile Road Bike 3up Team Time Trial event.
Road conditions were excellent with a sunny blue sky overhead.
Sixteen teams of three were on the start-sheet so the event was sure to give a tough challenge to the teams of riders.
The hilly, rolling course winds through the Golden Valley. The outward leg goes through Madley and Bredwardine, turning left for the return leg through Dorstone and Peterchurch with the final straight from Lock’s garage back to the bus shelter opposite Pateshall Hall making a challenging finish.
The two strongest teams, one from Climb-On Bikes and the other from the Wheelers battled it out to the finish. Luke Moseley, Ben Dale and Stuart Griffiths from Climb-On Bikes showed the Wheelers the way home in a time of 1 hour 24 minutes and 19 seconds.
The Wheelers team of Ian Rivers, Jon Tetley and Ian Peake came in more than four minutes behind.
The Winter Turbo sessions have now finished on Thursday evenings and will be replaced with the popular Evening 10-mile Time Trials.
The club thanked Bill Berry for his enthusiastic organisation of the Turbo sessions and Judy Hill and Reg Hughes for their help in the kitchen.
RESULTS 1 Luke Moseley, Ben Dale and Stuart Griffiths 1.24.19; 2 Ian Rivers, Jon Tetley and Ian Peake 1.28.49; 3 Pete Ding, Simon Geary and Andy Sparkes 1.36.04; 4 Ned Potter, Chris Hughes and Andy Jones 1.36.10; 5 Clive Beacon, Chris Turvey and Neil Langdon 1.37.29.
Ian Rovers broke his own course record when 27 riders took part in Wheelers’ third event of the season, the Scratch ‘25’ mile Time Trial on the fast Leominster to Burley Gate course.
The road conditions were excellent with sunny blue skies and a light breeze.
Rivers has upped his training during the winter season and with the perfect weather conditions the record looked set to be broken.
Although he had to stop for a second for mechanical reasons he managed to break the course record by another 8 seconds.
RESULTS 1 Ian Rivers 57.14, 2 Jon Tetley 58.19, 3 Pete Ding 1.00.49, 4 Clancy Wilson 1.01.47, 5 Andy Sparks 1.03.13.
The time keeper for the event was Bill Berry and Alan Hall with pusher-off Percy Hughes.
Tonight’s Road Bike ‘10’ TT is on the Allensmore course starting at 7pm.
