MIKE Talty will join forces with Ross-on-Wye GC’s club professional Paul Middleton to play in a National Pro-Am qualifier at Little Aston in Birmingham.

Talty earned his place alongside Middleton after winning the opening medal in the club’s 2009 programme.

Talty took the top spot on a countback from Sam Peplow after both players finished with a nett 68.

John Allen and Colin Price both scored nett 70 rounds in Division 2, while Nigel Edmonson and Derek Hale enjoyed nett 71 rounds.

Teenager Harry Butler topped Division 1 on a countback from Doug Duncanson and Geoff Thomas after they all carded a nett 70.

Dave Ruff, Stan Beale, Paul Gibbons and Steve Price and Lee Cartwright each carded a nett 71.

Brian Macnamara (76) achieved the best gross in Division 1.

Patrick Curtis and Dave Every clinched the Ross Seniors’ Midweek Winter League Trophy for the fourth time.

They beat Tim Rigden and Peter Lowe in the final, 4&3, to win the trophy for the fourth time in the event’s seven-year history.

The losing semi-finalists were Tony Kershaw and Peter Metcalfe and Doug David and Roger Beaman.

Ken Vowles won the first round of the Seniors’ Layton Cup after an outstanding 45-point haul.

Mike Cooper, Harold Beach and James Millar each scored 42 points.

Octogenarian Dan Hunter was joint-third with Chris Beaton after both players returned 40 points.

q Graham Austin won Hereford Municipal GC’s Hall of Fame qualifier after a nett return of 62 points.

Jack Larkin, who shot a hole-in-one in practice at the fourth, fired the lowest gross score of 74 to finish second with a nett 66.

Len Granger and Steve Watkins were third and fourth respectively.

q George Davies, the seniors’ captain of Burghill Valley, was in fine form to win Division 1 of the April Medal with a nett 67.

Doug Harvey won Division 2 with a nett 66, while Gerry Saunders achieved the lowest gross.

Ted Amos (77-11-66) was second on a countback from third-placed Matt Cooke (75-9-66).

David O’Dowd (81-14-67) triumphed in Division 2 from Terry Davies (86-17-69).

Tony Bufton was third after carding 86-17-69.
