HEREFORDSHIRE Motor Club will be reviving their Welsh Marches Stages rally this year on Sunday, May 31.
The event first ran as a Welsh championship road rally in the 1960s, 70s and 80s.
In 1990, it changed to the showground stages held at Builth Wells and was a very popular venue with both competitors and spectators.
However, after 2004, the show grounds were no longer available for competitive motorsport and the club struggled to find another suitable venue.
That is until club member Mark Lively had the inspiration for this event.
The rally is based on the Mynydd Epynt ranges and provides new challenges for competitors and organisers.
The event is sponsored by member and Clerk of the Course, Graham Powell from Herefordshire Raceway.
Powell jointly runs his karting track at Weobley with his son Chris.
It is aimed at the clubman in rallying who may have previously been daunted by these tarmac roads that even the World Rally teams compete on.
Anyone interested in competing in this event, which is limited to 75 crews, can contact the event secretary, Caroline Wilks on 07792 504549.
Regulations can also be downloaded from the club website www.herefordshiremotorclub.co.uk. Marshalls are required and anyone interested in this should contact Gerald on 01568 612547. Spectator details will be available nearer the time on the club website.
Herefordshire Motor Club can offer something for anyone interested in motorsport, having celebrated over 50 years of competing, organising, marshalling and socialising.
Further details about the club can be found on the website or by contacting the club chairman, Len Evans, on 01981 540769.
