FORMER Hereford United striker Trevor Benjamin says he wants to fire the club back into League 1, writes IAN MORGAN.
The powerful forward will be working hard over the summer to get his footballing career back on track. Benjamin has spent most of this season kicking his heels while recovering from a serious eye infection.
“I loved my season at Hereford,” said Benjamin. “It’s got a good fan base and I felt very settled at Hereford.
“It was always going to be a difficult season for Hereford because there are some very big clubs in League 1.
“I am sorry to see that they have been relegated.”
Benjamin was released by the Bulls in May 2008 just days after the club had secured promotion from League 2.
The Kettering-born former Jamaica international scored 11 goals in 43 appearances for Hereford.
“I speak to the Hereford lads all the time,” said 30-year-old Benjamin.
“Football has highs and lows - and you have to enjoy the highs when they come around.”
Benjamin says he has been helping out a friend at Kidsgrove Athletic but is desperate to make a Football League return.
He added: “My eye infection lasted eight months but I have finally got over that.
“I would love to come back to Hereford.”
