Oadby Town 1 Westfields 0.
WESTFIELDS’ impressive away unbeaten run came to an end at Oadby Town in their final away Aspire Midland Alliance trip of the season.
After playing four games in 10 days, a tired Westfields side lost to a solitary first-half goal, but had goalkeeper Jon Pugh to thank for keeping the score down.
The vistors had the first chance of the game when Jamie Cuss set up Paul Allam, but his effort was saved by the Oadby keeper. Cuss then fired over from 25 yards as Westfields looked to gain the advantage.
However it was the Leicestershire side who got the goal in the 38th minute when Brian Quailey broke down the right flank and, after his strike was saved by Pugh, Martin Fox hammered the rebound home to give his side the half-time lead.
Former Scunthorpe United striker Quailey was causing problems for Westfields and went close twice in quick succession.
He firstly saw a shot cleared off the line by Sam Harrison, and then forced Pugh into a brilliant save soon after.
Westfields had one last chance to snatch a point when Jamie Upcott found Danny Hill in the box but he could not test the keeper with his header, and Westfield travelled back home pointless.
Westfields 5 Bridgnorth Town 0.
WESTFIELDS bounced back from their HFA County Challenge Cup final defeat to Wellington by thrashing Bridgnorth Town at allpay.park last Thursday evening.
Following their penalty shootout loss last week, the home side were aiming to put on a show in this Aspire Midland Alliance clash and duly delivered with the visitors on the end of a five-star performance.
Westfields were awarded an early penalty when Paul Allam was brought down in the box, and Mark Hibbard stepped up to give his side the lead. Darryl Addis then added a second after he latched on to Jamie Upcott’s through ball and fired home.
Bridgnorth battled back and forced Westfields keeper Jon Pugh into two great saves, but found themselves three goals down at the break after Terry Green’s low shot found its way into the net after a quickly-taken free-kick.
The goals continued to flow during the second half, and it was 4-0 when Danny Hill set up Addis for his second.
Jamie Cuss then scored a free-kick after man of the match Hibbard had been brought down on the edge of the Bridgnorth area, to complete an impressive Westfields perfomance.
