WESTFIELDS Reserves took another step forward as they look to secure their first Hereford Times Herefordshire League Premier Division title with an emphatic 6-0 win at Wellington Reserves.
This result leaves Wellington, who led the table for a long period since the turn of the year, outside the top four after completing their fixtures.
Phil Glover did the damage by claiming a first-half hat-trick and Westfields went on to double their tally in the second half.
Ewyas Harold can still pip Westfields to the title after beating visiting Ross Town 4-3, but their chances looked slim midway through the contest when Town led 3-1.
Ross forged a two-goal lead, but youngster Ross Powell halved the deficit with a neat finish.
Ross extended their lead, when prolific goalscorer Justin Halfpenny claimed his second goal. Chances went begging at both ends in the third quarter, and Harold had to wait until the final 20 minutes to turn the game around. Joe Taylor set them on the way when he headed home from a Tom Herbert corner.
Powell produced a powerful header from a Tommy Taylor cross to level the score, and then Taylor fired across goal for Herbert to net the winner.
Sutton United played some scintillating football in their final game at Amberley Park, and ran out easy 6-0 winners over visiting Kington Town.
Kington started well but failed to take their chances. Sutton had to wait until the latter part of the first half to break the deadlock, but then it rained goals as Kington caved in. Ben Chambers claimed a hat trick and Dan Herbert scored the other goal to put United 4-0 up at the break.
Herbert scored again in the second half and was joined on the scoresheet by Paul Johnson.
Fownhope moved off the bottom of the table when they picked up a point from a 1-1 draw with visiting Lads Club.
In a keenly contested match play swung from end-to-end and the two sides fortunes followed a similar pattern. Home keeper Neil Marshall pulled off a great save in the opening exchanges, and minutes later John Richards put the villagers in front.
Ryan Daw was hauled down in the second half and Josh Pugh converted the penalty. The city side took the lead when Ryan Daw knocked in the loose ball after the keeper had foiled his first effort, but Richards struck again in added time to salvage a point.
