A COLWALL old-boy will be hoping to wreck the villagers’ debut in Division 1 of the Crusader Worcestershire County League.
Leg-spinner James Wagstaff will be playing for Worcester against Colwall in Saturday’s opening match at Stowe Lane.
Colwall spokesman Darren Cooke said: “It is the first time that Wagstaff will be returning to play against Colwall, so it’s going to be difficult.”
Colwall’s bowling attack will, once again, be led by spinners Charlie Griffiths and Mike King, who is captain.
The villagers have been boosted by the arrival of all-rounder Gareth Sharp who has experience in the Northamptonshire League.
“Gareth bats at number 3 but, apparently, he’s a better bowler,” said Cooke.
Bromyard will be striving to win Division 1 after finishing in third-place last season.
Captain Zahid Saeed is making good progress after key-hole surgery on his left elbow two months ago.
“Our aim has to be to win the division this season,” he said.
Bromyard have a new overseas player - but he will miss their curtain-raiser at home to Redditch.
“We have a new overseas player, Lakshan Rodrigo, from Sri Lanka who is coming over in a week’s time.”
“He is a First-Class player who is a leg-spinner and an all-rounder.”
Zahid added: “Barry Rhodes had a good season with us last year but we think a leg-spinner will be a good addition to our side.”
Monmouth start their season with a trip to Hagley in Division 2.
In Division 3, Burghill & Tillington host Amblecote & Wollaston, while Wormelow travel to Stourbridge 3rd.
