ORLETON racing driver Scott Moran was in record breaking form when he started his defence of the British Hill Climb title at Loton Park.
But it was Martin Groves who won the morning run off racing up the 1,475 yards Shropshire course to clock 44.46 seconds and re-set the course record. Scott was a close second on 44.59 and Yarkhill racer Deryk Young was a spectacular third with 45.28. Roger Moran was sixth on 46.02.
Scott stamped his authority on the afternoon round storming up the course in 44.42 seconds to take the win and set a new course record. Groves was unable to match his earlier pace and cracked 45.31 for runner up spot. Jos Goodyear was third with 45.42, Young was fourth on 45.92 and Roger took eighth with 46.80.
Dave Wilson from Luston proved he could also break records when he won the 2000cc road sports category in 55.01 seconds and set a new standard for the class.
Scott collected the trophy for best time of the day and heads for the next round at Prescott on April 26, sharing the championship lead with Groves.
