LEDBURY Motor Cycle Club’s annual Spring Classic grasstrack, on Sunday at The Stallhouse, Vowchurch, is expected to produce some high-quality racing.

Classes are for 250, 350, 500, upright and pre-75 solos and 500cc and 1000cc sidecars.

Riders to look out for are in the 250 ex-British champion Neil Taylor, 350 sees young teenager Darren Drew from Tenbury Wells against the experienced Mark Taylor and Preston’s Alan Martin.

The 500 class should produce some top racing with Jack Hargreaves, having a break from speedway, up against Rob Finlow who just gets quicker and quicker and the ultra-competitive Phil Ashcroft.

Mix in Martin Williams and Mike Mcluskey and anything could happen.

Local interest lies in the upright and pre75 classes with Hereford’s Calvin Palmer up against the pick of the country’s classic class racers.

The 500cc sidecars looks to be a very strong class with the pick of the bunch Newtown’s Barrie Bennett and Eifion Hughes against Tony Cook and Dan Crawford. But local man Clive Wheatstone, riding shotgun for Dave Higgins, is worth looking out for.

The 1000cc chairs has a small but strong entry that will guarantee superb racing.

The action starts at 11.30 for practice with racing at 1pm.

The day will include the first round of the very first staging of The Herefordshire Grasstrack Championships for invited riders.
