A CREW from Ross Rowing Club came away from the Inter Regional Finals in Nottingham with a silver medal, just missing out on gold by 0.19 of a second.
Kelly Morris and Rosie Lindley qualified for the final of the WJ14 double skulls fourth fastest, and narrowly missed out on top prize after being pipped by a duo from Christchurch in the final which needed a photo finish to determine the winner.
Morris and Lindley though just missed out by the equivalent of six inches, having led for the majority of the race, however both can be proud with their efforts at the National Watersports Centre where they represented the West Midlands.
Two other girls from Ross were also included in the squad, with Ellie Grindle and Amy Surman competing at their first national level regatta, and came 8th in the heats to make it through to the Petite final and gain some valuable race experience.
The event was the first of the high performance junior rowing season, and the Ross crews have had a strict training regime through the winter to prepare themselves for the season ahead.
Junior Captain John Lewis was proud of the efforts of the two crews, saying: “These Ross crews represented the West Midlands with great credit. We are very proud of both crews and their achievements.
“The club is very proud of the commitment they displayed and thanks must go to Robin Fletcher, their high performance coach. Both crews will be targeting the National Schools regatta in May.”
