JOCKEY Jonathan Jarrett was in form at the Teme Valley Hunt point to point at Brampton Bryan when the 22-year-old horse dentist scored with a double aboard Upton Springs and Rockin Robin.
Upton Springs was preferred in the betting in the Intermediate race by the Steve Flook-trained and David Mansell-ridden favourite No Virtue but Jarrett had his mount at the head of affairs early. The favourite had moved up to challenge on the final circuit and had looked threatening but Jarret had poached a vital lead when the favourite took a crashing fall at the third-last fence leaving Upton Springs to come home an easy 10-length winner for owner Peter Corbett.
Jarrett completed his double aboard Rockin Robin for Lucton owner-trainer Paul Rogers in the Restricted Open race.
Rockin Robin had originally been purchased to give his novice owner some fun in the hunting field but responding well to Jarrett. The nine-year-old mare kept on resolutely to win by two lengths from Cregboy Lad and title-chasing Richard Burton by two lengths.
David Mansell continues in the quest for the jockeys Championship as well and he was aboard the long odds-on favourite Mister Kay Bee in the three-runner Men’s Open race, taking his score to 32 for the season.
Closest finish of the day came, fittingly, in the concluding Maiden race as Our Ellie, ridden by Hannah Lewis for Shobdon owner Penny Corbett and trainer Caroline Griffiths, withstood the sustained challenge of Rob Hodges aboard Market Bob by a head.
Alan Rogers, Clerk of the Course for the up-coming Radnor & West Hereford meeting at his Cold Harbour track, confirmed that celebrations from his win with Rumbery Grey at the Ludlow meeting had subsided and preparations were well in hand for the two-day meeting this weekend.
