HEREFORD’S Richard Townsend won his second trophy at Twickenham in five days.
The prop from Bartestree played the full match for Hartpury College in their 49-30 win over UWIC in the final of the British Universities & Colleges Sport (BUCS).
Townsend almost scored with five minutes remaining after a powerful drive - but he was held up just six inches short of the line.
“It was another very exciting match, “said Richard’s dad, Cliff. “It did not look too good after 10 minutes.
Matches are won and lost in the last 20 minutes and UWIC looked tired. Hartpury had their tails up and powered through.”
Hartpury sealed a hat-trick of BUCS titles after falling 12-0 behind early on and then trailing 30-14 at the interval.
The Gloucestershire side dominated the second period and did not concede any further points in last week’s match.
Townsend had previously helped his Hartpury side to an exciting 41-31 win over Clifton at Twickenham in the EDF Energy Intermediate Cup final.
