Westfields 3 Friar Lane & Epworth 4.
WESTFIELDS ended their Aspire Midland Alliance campaign with a defeat to Friar Lane & Epworth at allpay.park in an entertaining encounter.
The home side had plenty of early chances to test the Friar Lane keeper, but Dan Hill, Mark Hibbard and Paul Allam all missed the opportunity to give their side the lead when through on goal.
They were made to pay shortly afterwards when Darren Wheeler scored for the visitors with a powerful effort from outside the box.
Westfields continued to create chances, with Hibbard just off target with a volley and Jamie Upcott seeing his header brilliantly saved.
Again they were made to rue their missed opportunities when Friar Lane scored their second just before the break, Ross Trevor scoring after some sloppy defending.
Westfields battled back after the interval, and substitute Jamie Edwards scored with a left-foot shot to pull his side back into the game.
Wheeler restored Friar Lane’s two-goal cushion on 57 minutes after heading in a corner, but Upcott then headed home to make it 3-2.
Danny Gerry added the visitors’ fourth goal when he cracked in a 20-yard free-kick, but Westfields refused to give in and Edwards responded with a free-kick of his own from 25 yards.
However the equaliser proved to be elusive and Westfields’ league season ended on a losing note.
