Wantage Town 0 Pegasus Juniors 2.

PEGASUS Juniors completed their Hellenic League Premier Division season with a win at Wantage Town, ensuring that they finish in their highest league position for 20 years.

Two goals from Cory Hyde picked up the victory for Pegasus, who despite not having the majority of the chances walked away with three points.

Wantage had the better of the first-half but could not find the net and, in the 35th minute, Pegasus took the lead against the run of play.

Ben Price received the ball in midfield and, after bursting through the opposition, found Dan Stack on the right. He beat a man and crossed the ball to the near post where Hyde slipped the ball under goalkeeper Andy Burt.

But Wantage continued to press forward and Pegasus keeper Stuart Turpin was forced into a couple of smart saves to keep his side ahead at the break.

The visitors’ second came on 58 minutes, when makeshift midfielder Chris Mortlock intercepted the ball in the centre of the pitch and played in Hyde who fired the ball past Burt for his second.

Wantage continued to have the better of the play but failed to put Turpin under real pressure.

And so Pegasus ended their season in 10th position, their highest finish since 1988/89 when they were fifth.
