WESTSIDE progressed to the fourth round of the Challenge Cup with a 58-47 win over Shropshire-based West Midland Division 1 league rivals Tibberton Star.
Westside were able to put out a full-strength side, with Star missing a few key players due to injury and work commitments.
Westside started with a line-up of Kelly Stevens GK, Shelley Hudson GD, Mel Hunt WD, Jaydee Hunt C, Jemma Bearcroft WA, Kerry Amos GA and Debbie Bowdley GS.
Starting strongly and with the first centre pass of the game, the home side took a convincing lead within the first quarter.
The atmosphere at the game was a definite advantage for Westside with numerous spectators taking time to support the local side and spur them on for a win.
Westside continued to dominate the game pulling away to an eight-goal advantage by half time.
Excellent defending by Hudson and Stevens saw them pressure the Star attack, forcing errors and making numerous turnovers for the home team to capitalise on.
Despite having had three weeks off since the end of the regional season, Westside found their form and speed within minutes of the start of the game and displayed some excellent, dynamic attacking moves.
Team changes at half-time saw Helen Hancock come on to GA for Westside, Sophie Wright on at WD and Mel Hunt move to WA.
The changes saw Westside take time to re-settle and re-focus but their lead was never threatened and they maintained control and dominance throughout.
The fourth round will be played on May 16 or 17.
