FOUR county schools represented Herefordshire School Sport Partnerships in the first ever Hereford and Worcester School Sport Partnership Finals, held at Worcester’s Sixways ground .

The winners of the district leagues across the two counties came together to battle at U14, U15 and U16 levels, with John Kyrle, Queen Elizabeth Bromyard, Whitecross Sports College and Lucton School taking part for Herefordshire.

In the U14 tournament, Lucton and John Kyrle narrowly missed out on the knockout stage, failing to qualify from their respective pools.

Whitecross finished third in the U15 competition with wins against Evesham and county rivals John Kyrle. Despite that loss, John Kyrle went on to reach the final by beating South Bromsgrove, where they would face Bishop Perowne who had beaten them in the group stage 7-3.

In a dramatic final, John Kyrle were winning 5-0 with a minute to go, but Bishop Perowne levelled the scores with a quick tap-penalty and converted with the final kick of the game scored the conversion to leave their opponents gutted.

In the U16 competition, there was also heartbreak for Queen Elizabeth Bromyard who conceded a last-minute try to get knocked out at the semi-final stage against eventual winners Droitwich Sports College.
