LEDBURY Motorcycle Club’s Spring Classic grasstrack meeting drew positive feedback from riders and spectators that had travelled from far and wide to the event.
The superb track made for some fantastic racing in all classes.
In the 250cc event, Gloucester’s Neil Taylor was the victor while local man Steve Palmer did well with sixth.
The 350 class was probably the most competitive of the day with some very close races and Stourport’s Mark Taylor coming out on top; Hereford’s Paul Rogers was a creditable sixth.
The 500 class was dominated by Kidderminster’s Rob Finlow with Phil Ashcroft, another Midlander, a close second and Buckinghamshire’s Mike McLusky third.
The 500cc sidecar class was also very competitive with Bridgnorth’s Alan Morgan and lady passenger Jenni Cossar the victors.
Newtown’s Barrie Bennett and Eifion Hughes were a creditable third but the unlucky crew in this event was Worcester’s Chris Salisbury and Mike Tompkins who were forced out after a nasty-looking crash in the first bend.
Luckily they escaped unhurt.
The 1000cc sidecars was won by Leamington team Peter Lloyd and Nick Wilson but there was a lot of local interest in this one with Hereford’s solo rider Stephen Russell stepping in at the last minute to partner Worcester’s Fred Skinner to a briilliant second and another local team Paul Downes and Tony Bourne in fifth.
The upright class was, as always, ultra competitive with Birmingham’s Ian Dudley coming out on top.
County rider Calvin Palmer was sixth and he also had a good ride in the Pre 75 class coming fifth this class was won by Gloucestershire’s Dave Hammond winning from ex-Euro-champ Gerald Short who also came runner-up in the uprights.
A small but competitive class of quad racers was won by Forester Roger Windebank.
The final event of the day was the first running of the Herefordshire Grasstrack Championship with Hereford rider Paul Rogers winning a superb race from Dave Hammond with Calvin Palmer third.
