FATHER-and-son duo Roger and Scott Moran, from Orleton, had mixed fortunes when they contested British Hill Climb Championship Rounds in Cumbria and Yorkshire last weekend.
Rain showers swept the 890 yards course at Barbon Manor in Cumbria and made conditions difficult for competitors.
Martin Groves won the morning run-off with a 21.58 seconds dash, Trevor Willis was runner-up on 21.83, followed by Chris Merrick third with 22.43 and Scott a close fourth on 22.44. Roger took eighth with 23.95. Owing to delays caused by the adverse weather the second run-off did not take place.
And the bad weather followed competitors over the Pennines to Harewood, near Leeds, for Sunday’s event.
Roger won the morning run-off racing up the 1,583 yards course in 55.77 seconds.
Paul Ranson was next on 57.45 and Groves was third with 58.98. Scott recorded 61.44 on a wet track for eighth spot.
Then Scott took a convincing win in the afternoon session, clocking 59.56. Ranson was second on 60.06 and Groves was third with 61.52. Roger was fifth on 62.03.
The awards for best time of the day and first in the unlimited racing car class went to Roger for his morning qualifying time of 54.09 second.

l Luston racing driver, Dave Wilson kept his season-long unbeaten record, when he notched up another win, in the 2000cc road-going sports car category with a 32.74 seconds drive at Shelsley Walsh on Monday. This was worth another 9 points to maintain Dave’s lead in the UK Changes Midland Hill Climb Championship tables.
Trevor Willis won the morning 2 in-off for Avon + BMTR Top 10 Challenge points with a 30.02 seconds run in wet cnditions. Deryk Young from Yarkhill was second on 30.58 and Andrew Platt was third with 30.91.
Willis won the afternoon session in 29.25 seconds, Deryk followed wtih 31.01 and Platt took third on 31.39. Sue Young won the ladies’ award with a 33.21 seconds drive in the family Gould.
Avon + BMTR Top Ten Challenge positions after 6 rounds: 1. Deryk Young (Yarkhill) 46 points; 2. Trevor Willis (Aylesbrook) 45 points; 3. Scott Moran (Orleton) 41 points.
