A HEREFORD football club have won the right to play on the national stage this weekend.
Greyhound City Sports Under-13 boys triumphed in the Tesco Cup South-West England Regional Final in Bristol.
Greyhound took top spot in the South-West region after winning four, drawing one and losing one of their six matches against strong opposition.
The club, who are representing Herefordshire, will now be playing in the National Final at the Walkers Stadium in Leicester on Sunday (May 17).
The National Final promises to be memorable for Greyhound’s George Fielding, who was named player-of-the-tournament in Bristol.
He is a Leicester City supporter and will be wanting to impress at the former Premier League ground.
Greyhound team manager Duncan Sparrow said: “We are thrilled to win the Tesco Cup South-West Regional Final and progress to the next stage of the competition. The Greyhound boys have had a great season and played really well as a team throughout. They are looking forward to participating in the National Final.”
Bristol Rovers defender Craig Hinton, the former Kidderminster Harriers player, presented Fielding with the top player award.
Hinton said: “The opportunity to play on an national stage at a Premier League ground is a great incentive for the kids. I wish Greyhound the best of luck as they represent Herefordshire in the National Final.”
wWinners from England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland will play in the UK Final at Bolton’s Reebok Stadium on Sunday, May 24.
