ODGE Davey and Charlie Griffiths held their nerve to steer Colwall to victory in a low-scoring game at Redditch in Division 1 of the Crusader Worcestershire County League. They eased home with seven wickets down after bowling the host team out for 135.

Davey (45) and Griffiths (28) came together with Colwall wobbling on 90-7, and were still together when the winning run was scored 12 overs later. Colwall spinners Griffiths (3-23) and Mike King (5-33) had seized control of the game when Redditch batted.

Bromyard slipped down the table when they were forced to bat out for a losing draw at Barnards Green. Chasing the home side’s 274-5 they finished up on 170-7.

Peter Whittenbury took three wickets and top-scored on 39 with the bat, but the draw was achieved thanks to Jeremy Leighton’s dogged 36 in 112 balls.

In Division 2 Monmouth were bowled out for 135 and went down by 144 runs at home to Romsley.

Ian Mackinlay (5-69) and Andy McGuire (4-73) took the wickets, but the Romsley top order flourished. It was a different story after tea with C Bray (6-16) causing the home batsmen considerable trouble.

Burghill are top of Division 3 after gaining an exciting last-ball victory at Birlingham. Mike Pledge and John Terry shared the wickets as the home side made 239-6, but Burghill sneaked home with two wickets to spare.

Wormelow are just two places behind Burghill after Tom Bevan (110) and Ian Herbert (82) had helped them post a first innings total of 265-6 when they entertained Lye. The visitors closed on 188-7.

Canon Frome have made a flying start in Division 4 South. They romped to a five-wicket home win after bowling Tenbury out for 178.

It was a different story at Hanley Castle where the home side bowled Ross out for 75 to win by 136 runs after scoring 211.
