TWELVE over-40s teams from Herefordshire and Worcestershire turned back the clock to take part in the Dave Gilbert Memorial 6-a-side Football Tournament in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support.
Despite team names such as Civil Service Geriatrics, Pegasus Pensioners and Worcester Slob Academicals, the football on show was still of a good standard.
Topping the list were The Vaga Boys from Hereford who beat Morgan’s Allstars 1-0 in the final at Westfields’ allpay.park.
The competition is in its third year and has raised more than £7,000 for the charity in memory of footballer Dave Gilbert, a long-time Civil Service stalwart, who died aged 46 in 2007.
Tournament organiser Jan Gilbert said: “This was a team event in every possible respect. It is thanks to the support of Westfields FC for the facilities, the referees who gave up their personal time and many local businesses and individuals that we were able to raise valuable funds for Macmillan Cancer Support.”
