HEREFORD golfer Kris Jones has recorded the best result of his Jamega Tour career.
The 22-year-old finished second in a field of more than 100 national and international golf professionals at Wharton Park, near Kidderminster.
He was inches away from forcing a play-off against Danny Belch who achieved a course record-equaling 4 under 67 The Burghill Valley Golf Club member picked up a £1,500 cheque for his outstanding performance in the fifth event of the 22-stage Jamega event tour calendar.
Jones new practice regime includes all-weather conditions and he coped very well with the wind which, at times, gusted to 50mph.
Several players, including Jones broke the strict par of 71 with 69 cards from Ashley Lucas, Andrew Johnson and notable Asian Tour Player, Australian Adam Blyth. On the second day, Jones was 4-under through 9 holes, -6 for the tournament and had the advantage by two shots.
The tournament was his to win at this stage but he then dropped 2 shots early on the inward nine.
Belch achieved a course record-equaling 4 under 67 to set the house target at 5 under par 137.
His only challenger was Jones, who had plenty of time to study his 50 foot birdie putt. Jones needed to get down in 2 to force a play-off.
However, Jones’ first putt was struggling from the word go and stopped some 9 feet short of the hole.
Jones’ next effort was well struck but fell away to the left leaving him to tap in for second place.
Jones would like to thank Advantage Business Supplies and allpay.net for their continued support.
