HEREFORD schoolboy George Reese hopes a two-try England debut will earn him a summer tour to Tonga.
The flanker scored a brace of tries in England Youth Under-15’s 36-27 win over Scotland at Twickenham.
George, who lives in Burghill, is awaiting to hear from the England selectors.
“It was a great experience to play for England,” said 14-year-old George, a pupil at Whitecross High School.
“I know there is a tour to Tonga but I haven’t heard anything yet from the selectors. It would be great to go.”
George, who plays his youth rugby with Gloucester Rugby Club, described his tries against Scotland.
“I joined the line and broke through for the first try and the second was an up-and-under from the fly-half which I ran on to.
“I scored four tries in total last season and it was nice to get two of those while playing for England.”
George trains three times a week with Gloucester and has been playing rugby since the age of four.
“All my uncles played rugby so that’s probably where my interest came form.
“I started off at a very young age at Hereford Rugby Club and then the Gloucester selectors spotted me at school on a development day.
“I was playing a game for Gloucester and the scouts from the England squad saw me - and that’s how I got to play for England.”
George says one person has been an inspiration behind his rugby success - his brother Tom.
“My brother, Tom, is my inspiration and my idol,” he said.
“Tom goes to Bishop’s School and plays hooker for the first team.”
l HEREFORD & Worcester Under-19 have won the Houghton-Harris Shield for the fifth successive year.
