HEREFORD Triathlon Club has received a record level of entries so far for its annual sprint triathlon.

More than 100 competitors have entered the race so far, more than double the amount that the club has normally had by this stage in previous years.

"Our race is ideal for beginners to the sport or people that want a short, fast course," said race organiser Nicola Goodwin.

"There's not many pool-based entry triathlons in the West Midlands so we find people who want to have a first taste of the sport come to our event."

The race is being held on Sunday, July 19 at Bishop of Hereford’s Bluecoat School in Tupsley where the competitors will swim 400 yards, cycle for 20 kilometres around Mordiford and Bartestree and then run five kilometres to finish.

The entry limit for the race is 200 and the organisers expect the event to be full by June.

"Many local people take part in the triathlon every year and we're keen that they don't miss out," said Goodwin.

"We're advising anybody who wants to race to get their entries in as soon as possible and we will be running a waiting list when the event fills up in case people drop out before the day."
