MISSING a number of key players, Brockham-pton slipped to their first defeat of the season in Division 2 of the Birmingham and District Premier League at Aston Manor.
They bowled the home side out for 194 in the final over but, for once, their reliable batting line-up fell 37 runs of their target, they were bowled out for 158 with, disappointingly, more than 10 overs to go.
Richard Parker (4-55) and Chris Boroughs (4-56) made early in-roads into the top order, and when part-time seamer Tom Austwick dismissed the dangerous South African Christoffel Viljoen (45) to make the score 117-6 a low total looked likely.
Three of the lower-order reached the 20s, however, and the home side added 77 for the final four wickets.
Brockhampton reached 49-1 and looked to be on course for another win, but then Chris Boroughs was superbly caught and bowled by Shozab Haider. From that point on, wickets tumbled regularly, with just stand-in skipper Ashley Nahorniak (36) and Austwick (35 not out) threatening to turn the game around.
It was the reverse story for Eastnor in Division 3. With the influential Atiq back in their line-up, they recorded their first win of the season at Newport.
Eastnor made 214 batting first after winning the toss, and went on to win by 70 runs after bowling the home side out for 144.
Clive Chadhani was the batting hero for the Herefordshire side, batting throughout the innings to finish on 87 not out, clicking up 14 boundaries on the way.
Six other batsmen reached double figures, with Atiq and Faisal reaching the 20s. They were all out in the penultimate over.
The game looked to be heading for a tight finish when Newport reached a steady 60-1. Shahid kept the innings in check, conceding just 24 runs from his 15 overs, while the spinners took eight wickets between them.
Atiq led the way with 4-36 off 14 overs and Jabran finished with 3-26 off 10. Newport were all out in the 49th over.
