Hereford Under-15 2 Erdington & Saltley Under-15 1 HEREFORD came from behind to win a West Midlands Schools Football League clash and proved to be worthy of the result.

A fast paced and even first 20 minutes kept the large crowd entertained.

Erdington were first to claim a goal with a low left-foot shot from from 20 yards which beat Sam Hamer at his near post.

Hereford were unlucky not to draw level after 30 minutes when Cathal Tosh (St Mary's) sent a left-foot cross from the right and it was met majestically on the volley by Jack Brazier (Weobley), his thunderous shot cannoning off the crossbar.

The ball rebounded back to the edge of the penalty box to be met on the volley by Sam Preece (Minster), whose goal-bound volley hit Brazier some five yards in front of him.

The next attack saw Hereford level with another cross from the right which was only partially cleared and Aidan Thomas (Whitecross) was on hand to sweep the ball into the net.

A see-saw second half started with Hamer making a fine save. Hereford then broke clear with Brazier powering down the right and his cross found Preece who made no mistake from 10 yards.

Hereford had chances to increase their lead with Brazier and Stannard (Weobley) missing good opportunities.

Skipper Ashley Stubbs (Weobley) was also unlucky not to score when his powerful header from Stannard's corner went narrowly wide.

But the home side had to endure an uncomfortable last five minutes to earn the win.

The Under 14s lost for the second time, Erdington & Saltley powering to a 7-1 victory. Matt Strangewood (Wigmore) scored a consolation goal for Hereford.

WESTFIELDS missed out on the chance to move to the top of the Hereford Times Hereford-shire League Premier Division on Tuesday evening when they went down 1-0 at home to Wellington Rangers.
