Lincolnshire FA 6 Herefordshire FA 1 HEREFORDSHIRE suffered their heaviest defeat at under-18 level for 10 years when soundly beaten by a strong home side in the Midland Counties Youth Championship.

But although Lincolnshire gained a comfortable victory, the scoreline somewhat flattered them.

Lincolnshire dominated much of the play but needed a harshly-awarded penalty decision to score their opening goal after 23 minutes, Matthew Kennedy firing home from the spot.

Herefordshire forced a series of corners but their goalkeeper Liam Brewer had to make two excellent full-stretch saves before the home side increased their lead with a back-post header from Michael Jacklin.

Just before half-time a Craig Jones shot beat the Lincolnshire keeper but the ball rebounded out off the inside of the post.

Soon after the restart Herefordshire were rewarded when Bobby Terrett netted from a Craig Jones free-kick, but almost immediately Kennedy scored from 18 yards and then Kennedy added to his total by netting another penalty.

Poor Herefordshire defensive work saw Jono Harriyanto score a simple goal before Kennedy netted his fourth with a spectacular chip shot just under the crossbar.
