HEREFORD'S St Paul's Primary School is the FA's National Charter Standard Development Primary School of 2006.

This is the highest level of award available to Charter Standard Schools and comes after the school won the FA Charter Standard Development Award for Herefordshire for the second year running and subsequently the Regional Charter Standard Development Award for the West Midlands.

"This is a fantastic achievement by St Paul's when you consider how many primary schools there are in England and how much good work is being carried out," said games teacher Ian Smith.

"This award reflects the effort of many people and organisations - pupils, staff, parents, visiting coaches, link clubs (particularly Pegasus and Westfields) and the HFA (particularly Paul Carpenter and Alexis Lunn).

"It is something of which the whole county can feel immensely proud."

Smith and PE co-ordinator Lydia O'Connor received the trophy and a cheque for £300 at a special awards lunch in Manchester, after which they were the FA's guests at the European Qualifier between England and Macedonia at old Trafford.
