Rob Arrowsmith was bidding for a hat-trick of victories after two successive wins on the Algarve in 2004 and 2005 and made ground on Gibbons on the last round at La Cala North when they played together in a four-ball.

They arrived level on aggregate points at the last green where Gibbons downed a longish putt to put pressure on his rival who needed a three-footer to share overall victory. But Arrowsmith's consistent play failed on this occasion as the putt went wide, leaving him runner-up.

So Gibbons finished with a total of 113 points to Arrowsmith's 112, while Terry Davies was third on 106, Derrick Jones fourth on 104, and Brian Amos fifth on 102.

The other courses played were Cabopino, Torrequebrada and Mijas.
