HEREFORD suffered yet an-other goalless display as the home side brought the curtain down on their 80 years of League football.
The Bulls, despite restoring leading scorers Andy Willi-ams and Alan Connell to the front line, failed to find the net for the ninth time in the last 10 games.
Williams, however, could count himself unlucky after having a strike disallowed for offside and then hitting the bar with a cracking second-half drive.
Although fellow-strugglers Boston's relegation was not settled until last Saturday, Torquay's slide into the Con-ference for next season had been settled some time back.
With Hereford having nothing other than pride to play for, the pressure was, to some degree, off at Plainmoor.
The Bulls, however, made a lively start, and, after Danny Thomas had made a useful run down the left, less than 30 seconds were on the clock when Ben Smith saw a shot blocked.
Torquay, who were looking at least for the satisfaction of signing off their league career with a win, were unlucky not to take the lead on 17 minutes.
From their third corner of the game, Steve Cooke delivered a cross which Kevin Hill headed powerfully goalwards only to find Rob Purdie popping up to head off the line.
Hereford did have the ball in the net three minutes later when Williams raced on to a Luke Webb pass to beat goalkeeper Martin Horsell but the linesman raised his flag.
On a hard, bouncy playing surface, Hereford made the running at the start of the second period and Williams thought he had broken the deadlock when he received a pass from Purdie to work a shooting chance 15 yards out. His effort beat Horsell but thwacked against the bar and came out to safety.
After that, Hereford's shooting chances were restricted to long-range and, not for the first time this season, they had to rely on the brilliance of Wayne Brown to save a point.
Eight minutes from time, the home side were awarded a free-kick 30 yards out and substitute Ryan Dickson's shot was heading for the top corner of the net But Brown made a flying save to tip the ball over.
Hereford: Brown; McClenahan, Beckwith, Mkandawire, Purdie; Travis, Webb, Smith (Fitzpatrick, 73 min), Thomas; Connell (Sills, 73 min), Williams. Subs not used: Thompson, Gulliver, Gwynne.
Attendance: 2,942.
