Pegasus Juniors 0 Hereford United 3
HEREFORD eased into their pre-season programme with a comfortable win over their Hellenic League city rivals at Old School Lane.
It was a first outing for both sides but, particularly in the first period, the two teams produced some entertaining football in a well-contested match.
As is traditional at this stage of the season, Hereford included a number of triallists with Frenchman Marc Manga catching the eye in the first period.
The Bulls also fielded a different pair of triallist strikers in each half; former £3m man Lee Morris and ex-Aston Villa front-player Sam Williams in the first period, ex-Wolves youngster Liam Hughes and Jake Reid in the second.
Hereford kept Juniors keeper Stuart Turpin busy in the early stages but it was Pegasus who almost took the lead in the 22nd minute when Anthony Robbins rattled the bar with Adam Bartlett beaten.
Turpin did well to foil Morris shortly afterwards but the former Burton striker found the net in the 36th minute, racing on to a through-ball to slip home the opener.
A wholesale change of personnel at the interval did little to interrupt Hereford’s flow and Sam Gwynne, the only player to survive from the first period, doubled the lead on the hour.
Turpin had done well to block a Craig Jones shot and then parried Ryan Valentine’s follow-up effort but was helpless to keep the ball out as Gwynne picked up the pieces.
Shortly afterwards, Jamie Tolley added a third when his deflected shot beat substitute goalkeeper Bryn Watkins.
Leon Constantine, Glen Southam and Matt Done were not risked for Hereford because of injuries.
