HEREFORD Hockey Club can boast a team of national champions after carrying off the inaugural Women’s Masters Over 35s title.
A late goal from Kerry Bason secured a 4-3 win in the final against Oxford at Beeston on Sunday.
Hereford took the lead on 17 minutes with a goal from Claire Pritchard.
The city side were rocked, however, by two quick strikes from Lyn Cockshutt but drew level before the break with a goal from Di Feely.
Cockshutt completed her hat-trick at the start of the second half to restore Oxford’s lead but Hereford were swiftly back on level terms when Karen Hackley supplied the cross for Feely to fire in her second of the game.
With 10 minutes remaining, it seemed as if Hereford had fallen behind again when Oxford scored from a penalty corner only for the striker to be disallowed.
And then, four minutes from time, Hereford sealed their glory with a goal from Bason following a goalmouth scramble.
