HEREFORDSHIRE jockey Hollie Doyle continues to break records in the racing world and notched up her 1,000th winner this week.

The 27-year-old rode Leyhaimur to victory at Goodwood on Tuesday, having also won with Almaty Star earlier the same day.

"Never when I started off my career did I imagine I would ride this many winners," Doyle told Racing TV.

"I'm just really grateful for all the support I've had so far; from trainers, owners, my agent - they've done a great job for me so far, even though I'm probably a nightmare to work for.

"Now all I can think about is the next thousand!"

Doyle is just the second British woman jockey to reach the 1,000 winners mark following Hayley Turner who reached the same landmark last year.

The jockey, from Ivington, started her winning run 11 years ago and in 2019 broke the record for the most winners ridden by a female jockey during a single season.

Amongst Doyle’s wins has been the 2020 Champions Sprint Stakes at Ascot and 39 Group and Listed winners in Britain.

"I'm really lucky that I've come across some really nice horses so far in my career,” she told the Racing Post.

"I want to ride as many Group 1 winners as I can, it's every jockey's dream, but my ultimate dream is to be champion and I know that is very hard. I know I want it enough and that I have the work ethic for it, it’s just whether I’m capable or good enough.

"I was riding for six or so years before I got going, so it feels an age for me, but statistically it has all happened in a short period of time. It feels like two minutes ago since I had my first ride.
